So many wonderful memories of a wonderful grandad it’s hard to pick a few. I’ll never forget the time grandad spent entertaining us as children. How he encouraged us to challenge ourselves with games and contraptions and obstacles, how he saw the joy of childhood by encouraging silliness, and how he just loved kids being kids. Then as we got older, thoughtful conversations revealed so much more of a deep and powerful intelligence that always felt accessible, because his patience and sense of humour permeated everything. I love how he was relentlessly himself, was never shy of ignoring the “rules” and how he taught me that you can - and should - be courageous and gentle in equal measure. I’ll carry that part of his spirit in mine always, and endeavour to pass it on to my boys. I’ll love and miss this great man forever. X
